This is a Full-time position in St Jacobs, ON posted January 11, 2022.

Five (5) positions available at either our Kitchener or Toronto, ON offices Work location optionsPEER Group is based in Kitchener, and is in the process of setting up an office in Toronto.

This opportunity will support an employee’s preference to work permanently from the Kitchener or Toronto location.

Our employees work in a hybrid model where they spend up to half their time working from home, and the other half (or more if preferred) working in the office on “team days” (two days one week, three days the next week, alternating).

For the Toronto office, while we are solidifying our plans you will work from home four days per week and come into the Kitchener office one day a week.

When the Toronto location opens, you will work in a hybrid model from the Toronto office, the same way it works in our Kitchener office, or more days in the office if you prefer.

When we’re in the office, we collaborate knowing that our surroundings are cleaned vigorously every day, and there are spacious private cubicles to give us the physical distance needed to feel comfortable.

Travel will be requiredWillingness and ability to travel within North America, Europe and Asia as required by the assignment (up to 10%).

This includes obtaining and maintaining a valid passport and applicable visas, and ensuring that you can provide proof of being fully vaccinated in accordance with all then-current travel advisories and customer site requirements.

At this time, with the restrictions in place by governments, airline carriers and customers, proof of full and current COVID vaccination is required during the offer process.

The roleWe need seasoned a developer capable of designing and delivering modern web user interfaces for scalable, industrial software applications used in sophisticated factory and tool automation settings.

What’s the challenge?

Design and Make it WorkCreate production quality server applications that employ C# on .NET, backends built with SQL, frontends with WPF, and communications provided by WCF and web services like REST API’s.Engage with customers and work with your team to capture requirements, design, develop, code using object-oriented design patterns, then integrate applications into customer systems.

Transform perplexing manufacturing automation challenges into the right functionality, reliably on time.Spot opportunities to optimize our existing and proposed solutions.Assess the impact of proposed solutions across both the stack and external systems to ensure a successful integration.

Own the quality of the code you write, from unit testing to installing software on customer equipment.

Troubleshoot issues reported from the customer site and suss out causes of the most obscure bugs.Set the tone for coding and documentation standards, championing best practices and helping others see the light.

Collaborate Be a positive force in in sprint planning with the team and daily stand-ups.

Be a customer hero, participating in installation and integration of software into the customer’s factory or tool automation systems.

Mentor team members who need a guiding hand with design, estimation, coding practices and customer interaction.

What do you need to bring with you?

EducationPost-secondary education in a technical field (Bachelor of Computer Science, Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Software Programming Diploma, or similar).

Required Experience5 – 8 solid years of work experience in line of business applications or ERP software design and an expert ability to assimilate new tech.

Object-oriented programming expert with C# on .NET, or capable of making a fast leap from Java.Firm handle on data structures and data manipulation with relational databases like SQL.

Easy command of Azure DevOps Server, Git, Team Foundation Version Control (TFVC), SVN or other similar tools.Know the in’s and out’s of multi-tier architecturesSolve asynchronous threading or advanced scheduling problems.Honed time estimation process, delivering code on time for critical customer or product release dates.

Mentor team members to influence their growth into high performing professionals.Mechanical aptitude to work on solutions that serve hardware, including robots.

Preferred ExperienceWCF WPF using the MVVM patternspecial knowledge of discrete automation with robots, writing device drivers, or working with manufacturing execution systems (MES).

Familiarity with scripting languages – or the ability to pick it up as needed.
