This is a Contract position in Ottawa, ON posted June 30, 2022.

Sr Data Scientist Objective The Senior Data Scientist, Strategic Project will be accountable for delivery of data analytics and business intelligence in support of strategic initiatives that go across different functions within Canadian Banking including Canadian Banking Analytics, Products, Market Research, Marketing, Customer Growth.

Using analytics tools such as Python, SAS and Power BI, this role will access a wide range of sophisticated complex data sources to uncover insights in support of business initiatives and inquiries.

The incumbent will work collaboratively with Data Enablement team to implement final data in the production for sharing with a wide audience.

Reason for request: New project Accountability 1 – Data Analytics and Visualization
• Use a variety of Business Intelligence analytical and reporting tools (eg.

SAS, SQL, Python, Power BI) to access Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), Data Lake (EDL) and other platforms to perform complex analysis and reporting, including interactive dashboards, scorecard, regular reports, and ad-hoc requests as required.

• Lead the adoption of visualization tool such as Power BI as the primary delivery method to enable user interaction and data exploration by business partners.

• Provide dynamic reporting on key performance metrics to various stakeholders in retail, small business, product lines, channels, other strategic groups, and external stakeholders.

• Act as the advocate of CB Analytics to showcase analytics solutions and dashboards that helps business partners to gain insight, build business cases and make fact-based decisions
• Effectively manage and prioritize multiple business initiatives, projects and ad-hoc analysis with business stakeholders and possible external partners.

Accountability 2 – Processes Improvement
• Support migration of SAS based data processing workflows to Apache Spark & Python.

• Collaborate with analytics peers and data infrastructure groups across the bank on data initiatives such as platform migration and new data source ingestion and requirements for projects
• Build re-usable managed datasets for CBA stakeholders.

• Document existing processes and workflows, and look for opportunities to optimize and automate work stream
• Coach, assist and share knowledge and expertise to new and existing team members with varying degrees of technical and data expertise
• Learn new tools and technology to meet evolving business needs.

Accountability 3 – Business Impact
• Act as project owner in requirements gathering, program development and process automation to ensure high quality delivery.

• Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.

• Support the development and implementation of long-term data and analytics strategy that move towards high degree of automation and end-user self-help solutions
• Acquire and enhance knowledge in technical areas, product strategies, competitive practices, market insights to continuously improve analytics value Must have:
• 5 years of experience in data analytics or data scientist role
• 3 years Hands on experience with Python.

• 3 years of experience with SAS
• 3 years of experience with SQL, Power BI visualization, Excel pivot table, MS-Visio and MS Office
• 3 years of experience with Big Data ecosystem tools (e.g.

Hadoop, Hive, Spark) and data processing within the EDL for ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures & data sets
• Experience with HDFS/Hive, Git, Spark, Airflow, Docker Nice to have:
• 2 years’ experience of banking and financial services products, covering all business lines (day-to-day, borrowing, investing, insurance, wealth management, and small business) Soft skills:
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Must be able to interpret and consolidate large amount of information in actionable recommendations
• Must be flexible to adapt to a dynamic environment and make quick and sound decisions under pressure
• Must be reliable, pro-active, results-oriented, customer-focused, and attentive to details
• Must possess excellent time management and organizational skills
• Strong communication skills and relationship building skills with internal partners
• Strong prioritizing, planning, analytical, requirement gathering and presentation skills
• Open to learn new tools and explore new ways of analyzing data and business performance Education
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Statistics, or another quantitative field.

• Certifications in Python OR SAS are a plus
