Sr. Data Scientist (Askuity division)

Askuity is a Toronto-based retail analytics software company operating as an innovative new division within The Home Depot.

Askuity’s mission is to transform merchant-vendor collaboration between The Home Depot and its product suppliers by enabling best-in-class data-driven decision-making and real-time retail execution.

We collect petabytes of data from our omnichannel platform to develop analytical solutions to help inform and facilitate collaboration between suppliers and merchants at The Home Depot.

From pipelines and schema design to machine learning products and decision support, data science at Askuity is a diverse role with many opportunities to positively impact our success.

Our data scientists focus on pushing products and the business forward, with a focus on solving important problems rather than specific tools.

We are looking for talented data scientists to help us better understand our merchants and suppliers so we can help them on their journey.

Position Overview: You will work closely with the Data Science and Product teams to build AI driven functionality directly withing the Askuity platform.

We’re looking for self-starters with a strong sense of urgency who thrive when operating in a fast-paced environment, enjoy the challenge of highly complex technical contexts working with hundreds of terabytes of data, and, above all else, are passionate about data and analytics.

The successful candidate will be passionate about seeing real world impact of analytics and have a solid understanding of scientific and business needs, as well as the areas of data science that can be transformative and impactful to the retail and eCommerce industry.

Position Responsibilities : Proactively identify and champion projects that solve complex problems across multiple domains Partner closely with product, engineering and other business units to influence product and program decisions with data Establish scalable, efficient processes for large scale data analyses, model development and model implementation within a modularized architecture where applicable Use analytical and statistical rigor to solve complex problems and drive business decisions Improve upon existing machine learning methodologies by developing new data sources, developing and testing model enhancements, running computational experiments, and fine-tuning model parameters for new models.

Design and drive experiments, A/B testing, outlier deep dives and form actionable recommendations.

Manage the implementation of those recommendations Communicate and educate technical and non-technical employees on analytics and data-driven decision making Required Experience/Skills: Master’s in Computer Science, Math or related quantitative field (or BS/BA in Computer Science, Math or related quantitative field) 3 years of experience in data mining and statistical analysis, demonstrated ability to identify key insights from data to solve business problems Experience using advanced statistical and machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, regression, properties of distributions, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks Experience with Python, software development and version-control (Git) fundamentals Experience with cloud services (GCP is a huge pluswe use GCP) Experience with relational (SQL) and NoSQL Databases Strong communication skills
