Software Engineering Manager, Merch Systems


This is a Full-time position in Fort Mcmurray, AB posted January 4, 2022.

Description: Software Engineering Manager, Merch Systems Merch Systems (MS) manages inventory and allocation, planning and purchasing, product and content, and pricing and promotions capabilities.

We build, support, and extend the systems that manage these critical business functions, ensuring that that our business partners have the tools, systems, and data to successfully fill our buy anywhere / deliver anywhere strategy across eCommerce and store channels.

As you may have read in the news, our mission is to make GameStop the e-commerce leader in our space, and we’re looking for software engineers with bold ideas to lead the way.

The Merch Systems (MS) Software Engineering Manager role will own the product strategy of one of the key areas above as GameStop rapidly updates its retail experience.

You will be working closely with the Merch Operations team as well as other key stakeholders on defining and designing the functions within our systems including extending and/or replacing current systems.

This includes building a long-term strategic roadmap as well as designing the workflows for specific features.

Prior experience in retail/merchandising space is preferred but not required.

This is a remote or hybrid role with occasional travel to Dallas HQ.

Responsibilities You are technical owner of the systems in your space through ideation, requirements, design build, release, and support You are a technical design leader, balancing concerns like scalability, maintainability, observability to make the best design decisions In partnership with your product manager, you are driving a technical and strategic vision for your space Drive progress in your programs, finding creative ways to deliver value sooner Develop the talent on your team; get them to where they want to go Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or equivalent industry experience 6 years’ experience in software engineering in large distributed systems environment 3 years’ experience directly managing software engineers Hands-on coding experience with implementing services, including databases, caches, queues, and REST frameworks Demonstrated experience measuring system health and outcomes with data Excellent written and spoken communication skills Preferred Qualifications Experience driving improvements to engineering process and tools like CI/CD, code review, monitoring, logging/metrics Experience managing developer on-call support Experience with AWS or other public cloud and its managed services Experience in the merchandising/retail space
