You will be involved in all aspects of the software development life cycle including design, development, documentation, testing and operations with a focus on automated testing.

As a software development engineer in test on team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the definition, vision, design, road map and using software to ensure that the team as a whole delivers high quality products.

You will:
• Work with the team to help drive business decisions
• Design, implement, test, deploy and maintain innovative software solutions to transform service performance, durability, cost, and security
• Use software engineering best practices to ensure a high standard of quality for all of the team deliverable
• Write high quality distributed system software
• Work in an agile, startup-like development environment, where you are always working on the most important stuff
• Write automated tests to exercise and ensure the high quality of the Amazon Assessments platform The Amazon Assessments team has a presence in both Vancouver and Toronto and this role is available in either city.

Key job responsibilities
• Write automated tests to exercise the Amazon Assessments platform
• Manage the tests in an extensible and auditable manner
• Software to test software: develop a reusable framework
• Work with subject matter experts to understand the purpose and ensure the functionality is representative of customer needs A day in the life
• Work closely with SDEs and Talent Assessment subject matter experts to identify pain points of manual processes
• Incrementally build automated functionality to reclaim manual testing time from TA team BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• 2 years of non-internship professional software development experience
• Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
• 2 years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, related field and/or equivalent professional, industry experience & training
• Ability to mentor other software engineers
• Solid knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals (object-oriented design, data structures and algorithm design)
• Excellent communication and analytical skills PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• 5 years of non-internship professional software development experience
• Architectural experience creating highly-scalable web applications
• A solid understanding of best practices and techniques regarding scalability, performance, and security
• Experience with automated testing frameworks and testing methodology
• Experience mentoring junior software engineers to improve their skills and make them more effective and productive software engineers.
