Senior Manager, Risk and Performance Analytics (18 month contract)

This is a Contract position in Toronto, ON posted November 17, 2022.

The opportunity

As the Senior Manager, Risk & Performance Analytics, you will play a meaningful role in the measurement and monitoring of risk and exposure at a total fund level. This leadership position has accountability for ensuring that counterparty credit and credit risk is independently reported. You will ensure that the group effectively monitors and reports potential future exposure, credit rating reporting and single issue exposure and works with Risk and the Investment Division Credit Committee (IDCC) to strengthen the measures produced by the team. As a business lead, you will work with IT on reporting enhancement projects and changes to the Board Investment Policy (BIP).

Who you'll work with

You will lead your team to produce daily reporting for senior executives in Investments for decision-making on daily trading. This report is also used by the Risk department to understand exposures and assist in Risk oversight. Monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reporting is used by investment executives, internal oversight committees, and regulators and is an input to financial statements and the annual report.

What you'll do

  • Lead the group to continually improve total fund reporting and attribution analysis on significant exposure movements including breaches and close breaches
  • Collaborate with Risk, TFM and Model Valuation Group (MVG) on model and reporting enhancement initiatives
  • Ensure that total fund exposure and liquidity risk are properly identified, analyzed and reported
  • Deliver high quality reports and analysis to internal clients
  • Detect and escalate to decision makers at Ontario Teachers’ relevant market / regulatory risk issues
  • Lead internal initiatives to improve efficiency of total fund and liquidity risk reporting processes
  • Manages and monitors enterprise counterparty credit & credit risk exposures against limits
  • Manage internal relationships with the Investments division, Legal and Financial Operations
  • Leverage analytics including Robotic Process Automation for efficiency and to highlight value-added insights
  • Act as business lead various governance and other projects involving other departments
  • Ensure all Key Financial Controls are adequately designed and monitored for their effective operation
  • Enhance systems through issue root cause analysis and recommend changes to address frequent and material issues
  • Lead projects through all stages, including definition of requirements, resource planning, analysis, testing, documentation, training and implementation.
  • Write and / or review documentation of procedures and policies.
  • Proactively suggest areas for analysis and value-added services including introducing Power BI to the team
  • Communicate and inform effected parties of reporting changes and the associated impact
  • Build effective testing plans, review the execution of test cases and update key processes and controls to ensure reporting changes are implemented in an agile and controlled manner.

What you'll need

  • 7+ years of risk measurement or total fund reporting experience in the financial services/investment management industry
  • Experience in dealing with senior investment personnel
  • Progressive career development in Capital Markets Risk Roles
  • Experience in project management and ability to lead projects with IT and Business Analysts to deliver projects in a timely manner
  • Preparation of presentations to senior management
  • Relevant university degree (such as Financial Mathematics, Data Science, Business/Finance, Economics) is required
  • Relevant Master’s degree is an asset
  • CFA, FRM or CA designation is an asset
  • Experience interacting with senior investment personnel and legal counsel.
  • Proven supervisory and leadership ability to direct the efforts of others and be a strong team player
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills – effectively presents ideas to all levels in a concise, easily understood manner
  • Excellent strategic and planning abilities
  • Power BI – dynamic, visual reporting to senior management
  • Proven finance professional with strong knowledge of investment principles and processes, strong research, interpretation and analytical abilities.
  • Advanced knowledge of investment products and derivatives
  • Knowledge of VBA, Developer SQL or C# is an asset
  • Firm foundation in investment principles and processes, strong research and analytical skills, and very good quantitative, Excel and other PC skills. The individual must be able to deal with a variety of tasks and investment clients simultaneously.
  • Identify opportunities / requirements and develop solutions / courses of action where there may be no precedent internally, and little externally.
  • Due to the non-recurring and analytical nature of activities, a high level of constructive thought will be necessary.
  • Excellent analytical ability, judgment, independent and creative thinking to identify, research and interpret pertinent information, identify solutions and make recommendations is required
  • Innovative, creative and independent
