In your role as Sr Director of Software Development, you are responsible for the development and maintenance of a market leading oncology information system and cutting-edge patient engagement solution, while additionally leading the transformation of our portfolio to a modern cloud-based platform.

You help shape technology strategy and align your work to meet broader business requirements.

You work in a collaborative manner with other development leaders across the globe.

Role Summary Build and maintain the software development organization to develop and engineer OIS solutions in particular the ARIA OIS platform, cloud-hybrid modules and Noona as well as driving maintenance of existing products.

Overall responsibility to manage the staff, budget and engineering teams for the OIS Business Unit.

Overall responsibility for product quality (including adherence to release schedules) for the development teams.

Major Responsibilities Creates and maintains a cross location R&D structure which includes engineering in Winnipeg/Canada, Helsinki/Finland, Toulouse/France and Pune/India as well as remote employees with the target to develop and maintain oncology information systems for medical and radiation therapy including all products in the portfolio: ARIA OIS, ARIA STM, ARIA Clinical Pathways, Noona, Varian Mobile.

Fosters an environment where innovations will be transitioned into a product with benefits for patients, customers and which supports our business in the area of workflow tools, EMR functionality, treatment management for systemic therapy, and patient engagement.

Collaborates directly with other business units for successful continuation of our integrated platform: platform teams, RTS (Radiation Therapy Solutions) and beyond.

Part of OIS Business Unit (BU) leadership team.

Collaborates with the broader OIS BU team including Product Management, Product Marketing, Customer Success and Project Management on product strategy and implementation.

Exercises personnel responsibilities within staff, such as recruiting, training, transfers, compensation, information, motivation, performance appraisal, termination, etc.

Determines training needs for staff and arranges appropriate training actions.

Manages financial and operational budgets and plans and controls engineering expenses to adhere to established budgets.

Issues regular reports on overall engineering performance and challenges.

Interface with engineering team members to gather, define, and document product and solution requirements.

Establish and maintain an effective system of communications Performs all required management responsibilities including but not limited to: implementing the company’s policies, programs, and guidelines; ensuring employee productivity and growth; managing resources; knowing Varian’s business; and maintaining functional, technical, and external market awareness necessary for managing immediate organization.

Applies all Quality Assurance Procedures, Instruction and Forms as described in the corporate Quality Manual the overall product life cycle (PLC).
