Senior Database Operations Specialist Location: Sault Ste Marie, ON, Canada OLG Site or Facility: Foster Drive Office Number of Positions: 1 Job Type: Permanent Length of Contract: Department/Division: Cloud Operations Posted Date: 8/12/2019 Posting Expiry Date: 8/26/2019 Senior Database Operations Specialist Position Summary Reporting to the Senior Manager Cloud Operations, the Senior Database Operations Specialist is responsible for performing all activities related to maintaining a successful database environment including designing, implementing, monitoring, maintaining and performance tuning the database system to ensure quality and performance.

What you will be doing: Performing database management activities including maintaining database documentation, processes, scripts policies and procedures pertaining to the management, security, maintenance, database configuration and use of the database management systemResolving database capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data issuesSupporting the design and implementation of database backup and recovery strategies including disaster recovery planning for the database environmentEnsuring data integrity by applying integrity rules at the database management system level, including ensuring data is stored with effective controls and adheres to policy for security, retention requirements and privacy risksIdentifying and resolving database related issues including conducting detailed root-cause analysis and provides continuous improvement opportunities to prevent further issuesSupporting planning, design, implementation and documenting any database version updates, releases and upgrades to ensure business transparencyPerforming regular database audit, monitoring and reviews, including providing database design, implementation, maintenance, technical support, installations and upgrades to ensure minimal disruption and to ensure high-levels of system availability and escalates issues as identified to ensure timely resolutionConducting database capacity planning for planned applications, number of users and data growth to proactively planned for business growthCollaborating with stakeholders from both the business and technology pillars to provide database technical advice, support and required analysis to identify potential gaps and offers recommendationsReviewing and analyzing existing database effectiveness and efficiency and developing strategies for continuous improvement and providing subject matter technical expertise to resolve disruptions and proactively stays abreast of emerging technologies and new design approaches What we’re looking for: Post-secondary degree, preferably in Information Systems, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experienceMinimum of five (5) years’ experience in progressively advancing roles within Technology Minimum of three (3) years’ experience with Database Maintenance & Operations Proficient in the following areas as well as the primary knowledge competency areas listed below Perform backups and restore backupsDeploy, configure and monitor database HA including MS Always on, Data mirroring, Replication, Db2 HADRMonitor and optimize database performanceScript changes to databases, tables, stored procedures and triggersAnalyze and optimize database queries Monitor and enforce database access rulesProviding Subject Matter Expertise and working collaboratively with the teamRequired to interpret internal policies and procedures to ensure complianceRequired to respond to emergency situations outside of normal work hours, including regular on call support in a 24/7 environmentIBM Db2 is considered as an asset.Knowledge of MSSQL SSIS/SSRS/SSAS is considered an assetAnalytical thinking and problem solving skillsDecision making and critical thinking skillsContinuous learning and creativity skillsTeam orientation skills Primary knowledge around: Information Management ArchitectureDatabase StructuresQuery and Database Access ToolsRelational DatabasesTechnical TroubleshootingDatabase SecurityProblem Management/Change ManagementData ManagementPerformance Tuning & Monitoring Secondary knowledge around: System and Technology IntegrationBig Data Management and AnalyticsCloud Resource Management What we offer: Competitive salary, benefits, defined benefit pension plan and variable pay program Extensive training and professional development programsGenerous leave plansFlexible work environmentExclusive employee perksGet involved with Bet on Green Program to help reduce OLG’s environmental impactSupport OLG Charities including Federated Health Campaign, United Way Campaign and other fundraising efforts for local charitiesPlus, you’ll contribute to the transformation of lottery and gaming in Ontario through OLG’s business transformation initiative.
