Senior Data Analyst, Data Science, Audit Professional Practice

Purpose Contributes to the overall success of the Audit Department globally as part of the global Audit Professional Practice team.

Reporting to the Director, Audit Governance and Reporting and working closely with the Vice President, the incumbent is an integral member of the Professional Practice team in ensuring specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the Chief Auditor’s and Audit Department’s business strategies and objectives.

The role of Senior Data Analyst is to play a technical leadership role to design and implement an analytical framework that will help Audit Executives to identify emerging risks, plan future activities, support Auditors in audit execution, and coach other team members to improve analytics capabilities.

The ideal candidate will have solid technical knowledge and experience in data science / engineering, analysis, and visualization.

Accountabilities
• Lead data analysis engagements, including providing guidance & supervision to other team members
• Collaborate with business lines and other stakeholders to enhance Internal Audit’s and the Bank’s data analysis practices and adoption
• Identify, acquire and use large volumes of data to provide incremental business value through creation of new models and algorithms that help the Internal Audit group execute Audits more efficiently and allow management to identify emerging risks
• Develop innovative solutions that provide business value and improve customer experience
• Develop & enhance visual dashboards to enable data-based Continuous Monitoring throughout Audit
• Work with large datasets and distributed computing tools for analysis, data mining and modeling
• Prepare detailed documentation to outline data sources, models and algorithms used and developed, as well as results obtained
• Support and deliver on the Data Analytics transformation initiative
• Develop and deliver peer-to-peer training and knowledge-sharing
• Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

• Lead data analysis and visualization for the department’s annual planning process, collaborating closely with methodology specialists
• Lead Tableau/R/SQL data analysis and visualization for the department’s reporting/monitoring activities, collaborating closely with reporting specialists
• Support Directors in the Audit Professional Practice area as needed with short-term projects, including gathering requirements, implementing business logic, and creating dashboards
• Support the department’s IT unit by analyzing data quality and data integrity as needed
• Develop/deliver peer training & knowledge-sharing on data engineering, analysis, & visualization
• Follow software industry best practices in testing and documentation
• Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

• Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

Education/Experience Required
• Extensive experience with the R programming language (including the “tidyverse” libraries)
• Extensive experience with Tableau software (including PC and server)
• Solid SQL skills for querying relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, DB2, MySQL)
• Experience using and implementing visualization tools like Microsoft Power BI or Tableau
• Some knowledge of Machine Learning and other advanced analytics
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with extensive experience presenting complex technical ideas and findings to business stakeholders
• Highly motivated self-starter with experience producing high quality data deliverables and able to work independently and in a team environment
• 3-5 years’ experience as a software engineer, data analyst, data engineer, or data scientist
• Degree in Statistics, Computer Science or related field
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with extensive experience presenting technical concepts and results to business stakeholders
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, and comfortable working to deadlines
• Highly motivated self-starter with experience producing high-quality analytics deliverables, and able to work independently and in a team environment Additional skills and experience considered beneficial
• Extensive experience with statistical analysis tools in addition to R, e.g., Python (including libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, etc.) or SAS
• Experience working with the Hadoop ecosystem (e.g., Hive, Pig, etc.) would be an asset
• Some familiarity with advanced analytics and machine learning
• Some experience with HTML and CSS (JavaScript is optional)
• Project management experience to successfully prioritize multiple streams of work
