Senior Backend Software Engineer

With the consumer and pet at the heart of everything we do, we seek to rebuild the way veterinary medicine is delivered and disrupt a traditional industry across every customer touchpoint and interaction.

We are looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join our Technology team.

Reporting to our Head of Engineering, this key role will be responsible for architecting, building, and maintaining our growing serverless backend architecture.

You will have a major impact in how Juno builds out Cloud Native / Serverless systems as we bring our software platforms in house and continue to expand across customer applications, clinic management systems, virtual care solutions, and in-clinic experiences.

You will have a key role in helping to build out our engineering practices as we continue to scale, ensuring that we are focusing on sustainable customer value delivery that balances time to market and the craft of quality software engineering.

We are assembling a team of innovative thinkers across consumer tech and veterinary medicine to build a new experience for consumers and providers.

Juno is led by a group of experienced entrepreneurs and investors in the consumer-technology space, financed by BrandProject LP, Redbox Ventures, and other strategic angels in the industry.

The team is located in the Toronto area and the ability to work in the Eastern Standard Time zone is a must.

Fully remote or hybrid working arrangements are available.

What You’ll Do Work with the Head of Engineering to architect scalable and resilient serverless architectures in AWS that consider flexibility, extensibility, scalability, performance, and maintainability Work closely with other members of the Technology team and the company at large to understand our goals and determine the best way to bring them to life Work in a collaborative cross-functional team that values continuous improvement of what we deliver and how we deliver it Write testable and maintainable backend code in TypeScript that leverages the latest in industry best practices Understand the needs of and help to support our web and mobile applications Be a champion for quality by leveraging automated tests, help to peer-review code, and be a collaborative mentor to other engineers on the team Support applications in production through a “you build it you run it” philosophy You Have Extensive experience architecting, building, and maintaining serverless applications on AWS Experience building and operating AWS Serverless offerings including AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, EventBridge, etc.

Extensive experience with JavaScript/TypeScript Experience with event-driven architectures Experience with cloud DevOps best practices including Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, and application monitoring and observability Familiarity with React and React Native is a bonus Comfortable working in a startup/small team environment A strong desire to keep up to date on engineering best practices and industry trends Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams with humility and curiosity Our Promise To You We hire smart people and give them ownership.
