– June 24, 2022 Salary: $36.23
– $47.58 per hour Hours: 0730-1945/1930-0745 Days off: Rotating Reference: 143108-aca Come work as a Nurse in the Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CSICU) at Vancouver General Hospital Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Registered Nurse trained in Critical Care to join the Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CSICU) at Vancouver General Hospital.

Apply today to join our team As a Registered Nurse in the Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit you will: Provide nursing care to high risk critically ill clients with unpredictable outcomes attached to life-support equipment, and/or clients in post-anaesthetic recovery, both by working independently and as a member of a interdisciplinary team.

Enhance quality of life from the perspective of the client/family.

Consult, confer, and collaborate with other health care givers.

Demonstrate expertise and leadership in nursing practice.

Maintain and advance your own clinical competence.

Participate on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.

TRAINING OPPORTUNITY Please note that a resume and cover letter is required to apply for this specialty training opportunity.

Should there be insufficient qualified candidates available for the above position, VCH may fund post-basic training education.

Eligibility for the post-basic training education is restricted to applicants with a minimum of 2 years’ recent acute medical/surgical experience.

Preference will be given to applicants with high acuity training and/or experience.

Applicants must successfully complete the post-basic training education prior to working in the Department.

5, Nov.

25, Dec.7, Jan.18, Feb.3 & Feb.

15 Full-time training at BCIT & practicum locations: March 28
– June 24, 2022 course dates will be modified based on previous courses completed, VCH only funds for required courses.

The post-basic training education program requires full time attendance.

Funding will consist of 100% of wages, tuition and books during the training program.

Candidates accepting this training opportunity agree to remain with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a regular status nurse in the area of nursing applicable to the education program for which they are hired for at least 18 months subsequent to completing training.

This will ensure that candidates are able to consolidate and apply skills in the specialty area that VCH has supported and funded candidates to complete.

In the event that a candidate leaves the area of nursing applicable to the education program for which they were hired or VCH in under 18 months, VCH will seek to recover the cost of the program.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education & Experience Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP).

Completion of a recognized critical care nursing program or two years’ recent, related clinical experience.

Knowledge & Abilities Broad knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client/family centred model of care.

Broad knowledge of BCCNP standards for nursing practice.

Thorough knowledge of the indications, actions, reactions, routes, dosages, and side effects of anaesthetic and other drugs used in critical care environment.

Thorough knowledge of nursing problems commonly encountered in a critical care environment.

Thorough knowledge of the physiological and behavioural aspects of complex critical illnesses.

Knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.

Demonstrated ability in nursing practice to assess and manage critical and life-threatening situations.

Demonstrated ability to respond immediately and appropriately to sudden emergencies.

Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload.

Demonstrated ability to plan and implement plans of care.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.

Demonstrated ability to communicate with, and deal effectively with, clients and their families, co-workers, physicians, and other health care staff.

Demonstrated ability to communicate in writing accurately, concisely, and clearly.

Demonstrated ability to teach clients and their families.

Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and work direction.

Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques Skill in techniques appropriate to a critical care environment.

Skill in the use of critical care monitoring and support equipment.

Basic computer literacy to operate a computerized patient care information system.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
