Network Team Lead, IT

The Network Team Lead will lead the coordination of the day-to-day operations of the enterprise network and network engineering team. The role will be responsible for architecture/design, configuration, and implementation of all networking components (LAN/WAN) as it relates to the entire EXTENDICARE network across datacenters and branch locations. The individual will work closely with the Systems infrastructure team for all network requirements across all systems and bring strong technical leadership to help guide operations and projects to success. The role will report to the Manager of IT Infrastructure.


The Network Team Lead is responsible for all aspects of Extendicare’s network infrastructure with a strong focus on standardization of process and technology to drive operational efficiency, scalability and security.

As the Network Team Lead, Information Technology you will:

  • Lead a team of network engineers for all network infrastructure including firewalls, routers, switches, load balancers, WIFI, network cloud connectivity including, virtual routing architecture, design for cloud and configuration.
  • Coaches and mentors team members to be a high-performing team through motivation, assessments, and ongoing improvement. Provides expert-level support and technical mentoring to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provides development opportunities for direct reports that align with associated career goals and technology initiatives/priorities.
  • Responsible for resource management of all team members across multiple projects.
  • Participate in reviews of the current LAN / WAN / SD WAN network, architectural designs and lead implementation of changes across all Datacenters and EXTENDICARE locations.
  • Participate in developing Extendicare’s target state architecture and defining a strategy for the technical direction of network architecture
  • Lead the implementation, configuration and management of VOIP infrastructure ensuring QOS prioritization and coverage over LAN and Wi-Fi.
  • Lead the teams during Major Incidents and provide recommendations on fastest path to recovery and supporting technical delivery teams with Root Cause Analysis for Major Incidents.
  • Evaluate network resiliency, support, and maintain network and security solutions both on premises and in public/private clouds.
  • Develop and maintain network standards to ensure they meet guidelines and best practices
  • Ensure rapid recovery in the event of a disaster, coordinate the review of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with disaster recovery and contingency plans.
  • Analyze network products and technologies and make recommendations to influence technical direction
  • Lead projects from a technical aspect by providing network architecture, design, planning, coordinating implementations, and documentation of new and enhancements to existing architecture
  • Provide Network architecture & design oversight for systems and projects and define solution level network architecture for project and work with associated accountability & ownership
  • Responsible for ensuring defined documentation standards are followed and that documentation is updated throughout the life of the project and post-deployment to ensure operability and sustainability.
  • Effectively manages relationships with project stakeholders, internal clients, and project resources to ensure on-time delivery and quality of agreed upon project scope.
  • Define and maintain architectural, process and policy standards for all aspects of the network environment
  • Tracks performance across all platforms and reports metrics to IT Leadership.
  • Ensures Operating Level Agreements (OLAs) and SLAs and any third-party supplier agreements are in alignment with and capable of delivering services within contracted timeframes.
  • Meet and exceed required SLAs.
  • Part of a 24/7 on-call rotation.

What You Bring

  • Excellent social, verbal, and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to effectively present analytical data to a variety of technical and nontechnical audiences
  • Self-motivated and drive others to achieve significant results through focus and prioritization
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or a related discipline
  • Cisco CCNP, CCIE preferred
  • ITIL V3 Foundations Certification
  • 10+ years of progressive information technology experience
  • 5+ years of IT networking experience
  • 2+ years leading a small IT network team
  • Microsoft Azure Cloud /IBM / AWS/ Google
  • Network L2 switching with VLANs, STP, vPC, LACP, FCOE, VXLAN.
  • Network L3 routing with OSPF, BGP, MPLS, EIGRP, etc.
  • Network Security Firewalls FortiGate, Cisco ASA, Meraki.
  • Network Security IDS/IPS, ACLs, NATs, SSL/TLS and IPSEC VPNs).
  • VPN solutions to include Site-to-Site, Multi-site, Site-to-Cloud, and client-based VPN.
  • SD-WAN Networking (Velocloud, Versa, Viptela, etc).
  • Deep network troubleshooting analysis with a network trace/dump, Wireshark, etc.
  • Automation on platforms like Chef, Ansible, Terraform or others.
  • Experience in health sector is beneficial
