Travelers is an industry-leading provider of surety bonds to developers of residential and commercial real estate in Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, and British Columbia for the purpose of providing purchasers with deposit protection, warranty coverage and development security.

The Managing Director, Developer Surety position provides a leadership opportunity to manage a team of underwriters, develop client relationships, advocate with key stakeholders, underwrite some of the largest and most complex accounts and projects, assist the team with project underwriting, and take a lead role in the training and development of the team.

What Will You Do?

Manage a team of direct reports Lead training and development initiatives Develop new business relationships through networking with brokers, developers, consultants and other centers of influence.

Underwrite new business submissions Actively manage a portfolio of existing clients Negotiate terms and conditions with brokers and clients Liaise with solicitors and review security documents Represent Travelers at various industry-related functions Analyze the financial strength and creditworthiness of current and new clients Oversee the monitoring of on-going bonded projects Review underwriting recommendations Maintain the highest level of customer service.

Direct and manage the delivery of excellent account administration services.

Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal resources (e.g., LP&E, Claim, Operations, etc.) to ensure delivery of all related service to clients.

Hire, develop, and retain and excellent staff who will support profit, growth, and expense management goals.

Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

Detail-orientated and thoughtful Well organized Motivation to provide best-in-class service An aptitude for swift, empathic problem solving Demonstrated track record of business development Ability to work under tight timelines The capacity to work both autonomously and collaboratively in a team environment Outstanding Microsoft Excel skills, proficient in Microsoft Office Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Strong marketing and technical underwriting skills necessary to achieve established and stretch business goals Customer Focus: Identifies customer needs and takes appropriate action to meet those needs Acts with a sense of urgency Strong knowledge of competitive market conditions Establishes strong coalitions and networks both within and outside the Division/Company Takes responsibility for decisions and actions What is a Must Have?

5 years of experience underwriting real estate lending at a surety or lending institution Undergraduate degree from a university with a business focus What Is in It for You?
