Manager, Business Intelligence

Purpose The Manager, Business Intelligence will be accountable for delivery of business intelligence and data analytics primarily in support of the deposit portfolio including Day-to-Day Banking, High Interest Savings products and GICs under Canadian Banking.

Using analytics tools such as SAS, SQL and Power BI, this role will access a wide range of sophisticated data sources to uncover insights and support various business initiatives.

The incumbent will work collaboratively with deposit business partners to drive objectives including profitable portfolio growth, increase of primary customer base and other related bank strategies.

Accountabilities Accountability 1
– Data Analytics and Visualization
• Use a variety of Business Intelligence analytical and reporting tools (eg.

SAS, SQL, Power BI) to access Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), Data Lake (EDL) and other platforms to perform complex analysis and reporting, including interactive dashboards, regular reports and ad-hoc requests as required
• Lead the adoption of visualization tool such as Power BI as the primary delivery method to enable user interaction and data exploration by business partners
• Provide dynamic reporting on key performance metrics to various stakeholders in retail, product lines, channels, customer acquisition, marketing and external stakeholders for compliance and benchmarking studies
• Provide strategic analysis that will assist the business to optimize existing accounts and product mix from various channels, grow primary customer and optimize opportunity to acquire non-Scotiabank customers
• Effectively manage and prioritize multiple business initiatives, projects and ad-hoc analysis with business stakeholders and possible external partners.

Accountability 2
– Processes Improvement
• Design and create new data cubes and intercative dashboards that support distributed analytics model
• Manage, update and maintain of internal data cubes for consumption of internal analytics peers
• Document existing processes and work flows, and look for opportunities to optimize and automate work stream
• Collaborate with partners and stakeholders to consolidate, streamline and improve existing reports to new standards, migrate reports and dashboards to online interactive data sources, and to eliminate legacy reports
• Collaborate with analytics peers and data infrastructure groups across the bank on data initiatives such as platform migration and new data source ingestion
• Coach and provide knowledge transfer to new team members
• Onboard to potential new data platforms and receptive to other analytics tools such as Python, R, Spark, Hive, etc.

– Business Impact
• Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

• Support the development and implementation of long-term data and analytics strategy that move towards high degree of automation and end-user self-help solutions
• Act as the advocate of CB Analytics to showcase analytics solutions and dashboards that helps business partners to gain insight, build business cases and make fact-based decisions
• Acquire and enhance knowledge in technical areas, product strategies, competitive practices, market insights to continuously improve analytics value
• Understand the Bank’s risk appetite and AML/ATF practices in day-to-day activities and decisions.

• Act as a data stakeholder and participate in project requirements gathering and in data governance activities to ensure high data quality standards Education And Other Requirements
• 5 years of analytical experience required
• Must be proficient with SAS, SQL and Power BI
• Strong in prioritizing, planning, requirement gathering, data analyzing and presentation skill
• Strong communication skills and relationship building skills with internal partners
• Experienced with Excel pivot table and MS Office
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Marketing, Finance or Business
• 2 years experience in financial industry
