Lead R&D Engineer – Cloud and Container Software Development


This is a Full-time position in Joliette, QC posted January 8, 2022.

Summary The Lead R&D Engineer is responsible for the development of software products and supporting systems.

In this role, the Lead R&D Engineer will use advanced technical and problem-solving skills to help the team tackle complex issues, satisfy customer requirements, and accomplish development objectives.

This position focuses on leading teams implementing new products and transforming existing products to become “cloud native.” This includes container support, exploiting Infrastructure-as-a-Service, cloud data sources, etc.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead teams in planning, architecture, and research with emphasis of SW modernization for cloud and containers
• Performs complex development activities that may require extensive analysis in areas including user experience, software design and solver research
• Develops and employs best practices and maintains them through technical reviews and mentoring
• Performs complex bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products.

Researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions
• Researches and understands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues.

May work with strategic customers or proxies to assess needs and develop solutions
• Operates without direct supervision and may function as a team leader, project manager, or software architect
• May be responsible for line management of a small technical team but primary duties are of an individual technical nature Minimum Qualifications
• BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 8 years’ experience, MS with 6 years’ experience, or PhD with 4 years’ experience
• Working experience with and understanding of modern C++ and/ or Python Preferred Qualifications
• Excellent technical knowledge and commercial experience with containers, Docker, Kubernetes, Amazon Web Services, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, virtual infrastructure, VPC, cloud security
• Experience leading projects and delivering high-quality products in a large-scale commercial software development environment
• Ability to translate business needs into development plans
• Ability to overcome obstacles and drive projects to completion
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively across teams and geographies, and to mentor junior developers
• Passion for crafting robust and efficient code
