Borrowell was named one of the Top 50 Best Workplaces in Canada ( About the Role: As a Lead Developer on Borrowell’s Engineering team, you will design, develop, optimize, test, and maintain application code for existing products, while also being involved in the end-to-end development of exciting new product initiatives.

You will have largely autonomous ownership over the architectural design and development of new software systems and you will work closely with your team to make this happen.

Although this role is not involved in people management, we strongly value knowledge sharing and supporting others’ growth.

To that end, you will play a part in influencing, unblocking, mentoring, and guiding more junior developers.

In the Credit Building Loans team, you will work directly with Angela, your Engineering Manager.

Your voice will be heard in how we implement our technical roadmap for future products and you will see how your hard work directly impacts almost 2 million users on the Borrowell marketplace.

In the first six months, you can expect to: Learn more about fintech, our core systems, and our products in both technical and business contexts Assist in directing your team in the system design to implementation of new products through designing and writing testable, scalable, and efficient code Mentor junior team members and ensure they adhere to code quality standards through leading code reviews Identify and encourage areas for improvement in your team and its processes Requirements Working experience in software development and architectural design
– in this team, we mostly use Java and modern Javascript (ES6, Typescript, Angular, React), however we welcome all technical backgrounds and you are free to interview using the technologies of your choice Demonstrated success as a technical team leader Education in Computer Science, Engineering, related disciplines, or equivalent in experience Openness to learning Salesforce concepts such as Apex and Lightning Web Components Nice to Haves Experience in a fast-growing company, particularly in startups or fintech Prior experience working on the Salesforce platform Proficiency in nurturing and mentoring others Important Qualities You’re adaptable and resilient to change involving alternating priorities You use a collaborative approach in teams through supporting each other and knowledge sharing You advocate for coding best practices and designing architecture that is not only performant, but scalable You have strong critical thinking and organizational skills for solving problems that don’t have a right or wrong answer You’re able to clearly and concisely communicate thoughts and concepts to both technical and non-technical folks You’re passionate about learning new ideas You see the benefit in coaching and mentoring others in your team Our Engineering Team Values We work well as a team and collaborate always We are humble and open to each others’ ideas and opinions We are not afraid of making mistakes and we are always learning We are persistent about solving problems we are facing Change is good and welcomed We are always willing to take on new challenges We are not afraid to say, “I don’t know,” or, “I need help” We take ownership over our platform and the work that we deliver We communicate clearly to ensure we collaborate well We find the simplest solutions possible for the hardest problems Benefits The Opportunity
