Job Summary

Under the direction of IT Projects Manager, in the IT Portfolio & Dev – Transportation & Works section, the IT Specialist will coordinate with business users, IT, and external service providers to troubleshoot and rectify a wide range of technical issues to ensure solutions and products, both hardware and software, meet the needs of the business while maintaining the appropriate service levels pertaining to City policies and Cyber Security best practices.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Communicate and serve clients by providing Tier II/III incident technical requests, while acting with integrity through spoken and written communication with customers
  • Resolve high-priority Tier II/III incident technical requests while independently prioritizing tasks on an individual case-based need to the satisfaction of clients, troubleshooting hardware and software problems, making minor repairs, and coordinating external maintenance services adhering to defined SLA (service level standards).
  • Deliver technical consultancy and resolve technical incident requests, both during normal business hours and, if needed, after-hours (emergency technical assistance and for specialized 24/7 operational units and applications) while meeting and/or exceeding SLA standards
  • Liaise with IT teams in developing specifications, coordinating equipment installation, cabling needs, testing, and technical documentation.
  • Act as a technical resource and champion the effective use of technology by clients within the Department through best practices while adhering to corporate standards.
  • Implement technology-based deliverables, including new software and in-place upgrades, hardware, including workstations, mobile computers, and hard-coded appliances
  • Analyze in-place, new, and emerging technologies and their application to identify room for improvement in existing systems and meet business objectives and strategies
  • Assist in project deliverables including the deployment of Test, Development, and Production environments, solution installation, configuration, and associated digital and physical assets deployment
  • Assist in review, analysis, and gathering of business requirements, and subsequent recommendation of appropriate technology to meet business unit needs (on-site review of in-place workflow processes, performance health-checks of in-place technology, and design mapping of technology footprint)
  • Drive continuous improvement through the review and assessment of in-place technology-based solutions for departmental clients, ensuring they meet and/or exceed business requirements
  • Deliver end-user training, and technical operational procedure documents to clients and IT support staff
  • Implement performance audit to ensure systems are up to date (application of software security patches, fixes, data security protocol, and product-level audit of security policies)
  • Build and maintain specialized technical documentation to support the lifecycle of the solution from Development through Testing to Production (Knowledge Base articles, Standard Operating Procedures)
  • Evening and weekend work will be required
  • May require moderate lifting of equipment. Prolonged exposure to computer keyboards and screens
  • Primarily office environment with occasional site visits
  • Other duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications
  • A minimum of 2 years of post-secondary education in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline with three to five years of experience within a large IT organization
  • A valid class “G” driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required
  • Technical qualifications and/or certifications in major technologies and standards such as ITIL and A+ are preferred
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience in the deployment and management of desktop applications including, client-side web, and SaaS (software-as-a-service) cloud-based applications (Microsoft Office 365, Exchange/Outlook, ServiceNow, SharePoint, SAP, and more) is preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in the deployment and management of specialized departmental systems including, but not limited to Hastus, ICON, RoadMatrix, NTR, Inform, Faster, Esri GIS, WinFuel, Trimble Business Centre, ActiveNet, and more
  • Technical proficiency with a variety of hardware, including; mobile devices, personal computers and peripherals such as modems, network printers, standalone printers, and scanners. 
  • Advanced technical ability to install, configure, troubleshoot and maintain computer hardware and software.
  • Experience in the development, testing, implementation, integration, maintenance, and support of in-house developed and off-the-shelf applications is preferred 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and TCP/IP
  • Strong customer service skills and experience collaborating across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 83,485.00 – $ 111,315.00
