Intermediate Airside Systems Engineer

We have a permanent, full-time opportunity for an Intermediate Airside Systems Engineer on the Airside Operations team.

Reporting to the Manager, Airside Standards and Compliance, the successful candidate will be responsible for working with various Airport Authority departments and our business partners to provide analytical process and demand/capacity assessments for airport airside facilities to guide short to medium range operational planning and support long range airport development.

Key responsibilities include: Working collaboratively with operational stakeholders to develop process definitions, inputs and assumptions required to accurately reflect current or future system requirements with a focus on the safe and efficient movement of aircraft Collaborating with various departments to provide a consistent planning basis and define future airside facility and infrastructure requirements by translating strategic goals into operational objectives and system requirements, then transforming system requirements into clear, concise verification plans Supporting the development of the long-term capital plan through translation of the long-term passenger forecast, design day schedule and process definitions, inputs and assumptions into airside facility requirements based on analytical demand and capacity assessments Supporting operational planning by completing current and short-term analytical assessments aircraft demand and capacity on current and future airside infrastructure Participating as a design team member for major capital projects which impact airport capacity, including providing designers with processing requirements and demand assessments Providing project management for specific planning initiatives or studies related to airside infrastructure development Key qualifications include: University Degree in Systems Design, Industrial, Process or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent), plus registration as a Professional Engineer or an Engineer in Training with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) or equivalent regulatory body Minimum of five years’ work experience in process design, facility planning, operational research or application of statistical techniques and simulation modelling in an operational environment Demonstrated ability to understand the interactions between complex systems and resolve challenges/conflicts across multiple systems by applying changes to other associated systems Ability to manage complex studies involving statistical analysis Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to conceptualize outcomes Knowledge of airside operations, airport operations, airport design and industrial and system design engineering principals and techniques would be considered an asset Strong project management, organization, and documentation abilities, as well as effective communication and negotiating skills (interpersonal; oral and written) Proficiency in MS 365 products, Project, SharePoint and Teams; experience with data analysis with R or Python, simulation modelling and CAD or Aviplan would be considered an asset This position is open to both Vancouver Airport Authority employees and external candidates.
