Hardware Test Engineer

Kepler Communications US Inc

This is a Contract position in Vancouver, BC posted November 30, 2022.

Kepler is on a Mission to bring the internet to space.

Incorporated in 2015, Kepler’s guiding star is to enable the space economy through the creation of a communication network in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) that will provide connectivity services to other space missions, be they on orbit in LEO, MEO, GEO, or beyond.

With an expanding base of early customers and our first 19 satellites in orbit, Kepler is continuing to grow and expand its most important asset – the Team Based out of our HQ in Toronto and with an office in the UK and a newly formed office in the US we are building towards a truly global company delivering a product for the whole world.

Kepler is looking for a Hardware Test Engineer who is passionate about developing test solutions and automating test instrumentation systems.

This position requires collaboration with various engineering teams, participating in the hardware development phase managing hardware test requirements, and developing test systems consisting of hardware, software, and test data management.

The successful applicant has a diverse background in working with Digital, FPGA, RF and Power systems to generate innovative solutions.

Responsibilities: Own the design of test setups for in-house and manufacturing testing.

Generate requirements for design, purchase, and implementation of test infrastructure including test racks, test beds and test systems.

Drive DFM and DFT requirements for Kepler’s designs.

Provide advice on design requirements for functional, ICT, and bed of nail testing.

Participate in design reviews for all active designs to ensure testability requirements have been met.

Design test plans and test cases to validate new hardware designs and improve existing products.

Operate tests, verify results, and troubleshoot test failures to provide design feedback and solutions to design teams.

Design, test and commission satellite and ground support equipment hardware for development and production testing.

Write software to automate hardware tests and drive the test environment towards full automation.

Enhance, implement, and follow test processes, policies, and industry best practices.

Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics or equivalent 1-2 years of Hardware design experience (schematic and layout) Familiar with various programming languages (Python, C++, etc.) and software development management tools (Git, Jira, etc.) Comfortable in a lab environment and experience using standard tools such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, multimeters, VNA’s, etc.

Ability to troubleshoot hardware issues Ability to drive design decisions and implement well-documented processes Proficient in RF and wireless communications concepts (S-parameters, radio figures of merit, antenna figures of merit, modulation and coding, link budgets etc.) Bonus Points: Test experience in a low volume high complexity environment Previous experience in Space, Aerospace or High Technology Industry Previous experience working in a Linux environment Experience with RF test equipment (Vector and Phase Network Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, Noise Sources, Power Sensors, etc.) Experience with one or more CAD tools (Altium, Eagle, Allegro, KiCad, Upverter, etc.) Experience using Raspberry Pi or other single-board computer platforms Experience with environmental test methods (Thermal, T-Vac, Vibration, Near and Far-Field Antenna Testing, EMC) Kepler Communications Inc.
