Data Processing Technician

Cegep Champlain St. Lawrence is seeking the services of an IT TECHNICIAN (DATA PROCESSING TECHNICIAN) for a full-time replacement position.

Reporting to the Coordinator of IT and Material Services, the incumbent will carry out tasks related to the operation of computers and peripherals as well as customer support.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

System management
• Ensure the proper functioning and monitoring of operating systems.
• Prepare and maintain the schedule of software installation for the labs and ensure it is respected
• Provide appropriate feedback to users.
• Identify when equipment requires replacement and assist in the planning and ordering process for replacements and cascading.
• Identify when equipment is broken and repair or upgrade it as necessary.
• Create, modify, or remove user accounts and grant access rights.
• Maintain inventory of computer equipment.
• Ensure the equipment is set up for the fall and winter periods.

Customer Support
• Install, configure and update software and hardware.
• Assist in the proper functioning of servers and solve problems that may arise.
• Explore and test new technologies, evaluate their compatibility and see to implementing appropriate modifications.
• Perform troubleshooting on all information systems as problems arise and provide accurate and timely status reports.
• Respond to queries pertaining to the use of the software.
• Provide software coaching to staff and students.
• Provide technical help to students and staff in order to answer their pedagogical needs.
• Perform other related tasks.
What are we looking for in this position?
• Communication in English, both orally and in writing is an asset
• Must be able to communicate fluently in French
• Must be able to communicate with others, customer support oriented
• Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite is an asset
• Basic knowledge of a virtualized environment and its operations is an asset
• Proficiency in Microsoft/Windows software is an asset
• PC troubleshooting skills
• Audio-visual knowledge could be considered an asset

EDUCATION
A diploma of college studies (DEC) in an appropriate specialty or an attestation of studies recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.
