Counsellor (Probation & Parole Office)

About you:

A registered social worker or psychotherapist with a passion in supporting marginalized or vulnerable folks dealing with complex life challenges including mental health, addictions, social exclusion, and involvement with the justice system.

The Opportunity:

An independent contract providing in-person counselling to assigned cases referred by the Ministry of the Solicitor General, in a probation and parole office.

This contract supports our Ottawa W. office 3 days/month and our Smith Falls office 1 day/month.

Our Gov't Services Counsellors:

  • Support mandated clients by providing medium-term counselling to assigned cases;

  • Communicate on clients' behalf, with express consent, with external professionals;

  • Follow the Government Counselling Services client services model and administrative requirements;

  • Meet the company's contractual obligations to the Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario.

What we're looking for:

  • Master's degree in Counselling, Psychology or Social Work;

  • Professional College membership in Ontario and valid professional liability insurance;

  • Minimum two (2) years post-graduate counselling experience;

  • Ability to work with various types of clients presenting a wide variety of issues and good knowledge of local community resources;

  • Strong clinical assessment skills with ability to promote community adaptation and integration;

  • Ability to set short term objectives and work from a strength-based model;

  • Availability to provide support during business hours
