(CAN) General Manager – Automation

This is a Contract position in Waterloo, ON posted February 20, 2021.

Position Summary This position is responsible for the direction and management of an automated distribution center (DC) including the overall guidance and direction of key support functions in the areas of Human Resources, Finance, Transportation & Administration, IT, Maintenance, Quality Assurance, Loss Prevention and Health and Safety.

In addition, the GM owns the partnership with the onsite Production Service Support team to ensure stores receive their inventory meeting our quality and level of service (LOS) expectations, as needed.

What you’ll do 1 Operates an efficient DC through achievement of budgeted goals and targets.

Proactively analyzes and utilizes volume and forecast reports, economic and labour trends and store needs to identify and respond to volume changes while controlling expenditures.

Maximizes current operations by planning for operational changes.

Submits recommendations on financial and operational plans.

Works in parallel with the PSS Team to optimize end-to-end flow.

2 Translates key operational performance objectives and communicates with (or to) individuals and groups verbally and in writing to the functional units within the distribution center and with customers, suppliers and associates.

Assists departments in establishing goals and objectives that support the overall strategic business direction and meet operational needs.

Ensures Production Support team goals and objectives are aligned.

Analyzes and reviews site-specific financial, operational, and administrative reports on a daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.

Gathers input from all departments to develop strategic recommendation for continuous improvement.

Drives continuous improvement efforts, promotes a culture of process driven leadership and establishing root cause analysis process.

Manages the relationship between Walmart Operations and Production Support to create a cohesive “one-team” culture.

Manages Operations in an automated environment through the creation of operational plans; prioritization, delegation and clear direction to managers and associates.

Aligns with Production Support, understanding how their role impacts the overall supply chain.

Reviews and approves forecasted staffing plans to meet business demands for workload and performance results; oversees the timely implementation of staffing plans.

Identifies and addresses inventory flow issues.

Utilizing an understanding of the processes and capabilities of the DC including processes within the automated system, takes appropriate corrective action.

Leads and monitors Supply Chain initiatives by incorporating change management principles, implementing playbooks, and creating review and response systems.

In conjunction with functional leadership, monitors asset protection and safety controls; maintains quality assurance standards; oversees safety and operational reviews while ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and procedures and with established safety, security, sales, financial and record keeping procedures and practices.

Anticipates and proactively responds to compliance issues, including shrink control.

Understands how these policies and procedures translate to an automated environment.

Serves as an ambassador for their DC and acts as a Champion of company-sponsored programs, events, and sustainability efforts to associates whilst also leading Managers and Associates by conducting regular meetings and communicating operational direction and initiatives.

Ensures the operation benefits from the inclusion of the Production Support team.

Understands that different opportunities may be present in an automated environment.

Develops and implements strategies to attract and maintain a highly skilled and engaged workforce by diagnosing capability gaps; recruiting, selecting, and developing talent; supporting mentorship, workforce development, and succession planning; and leveraging the capabilities of new and existing talent.

Cultivates an environment where associates respect and adhere to company standards of integrity and ethics by integrating these values into all programs and practices; developing consequences for violations or non-compliance; and supporting the Open Door Policy.

Demonstrates and lives company values by holding Managers and Associates accountable through timely, honest, specific and respectful performance feedback and corrective action.

Builds and manages relationships with supporting functions within National and their counterparts in other Regions.

Ensures optimal conditions through effective good housekeeping and safe working practices are followed throughout the entire DC, holding all departments to the same standards.

Performs workplace inspections to highlight and address safety concerns.

This includes walks through the workplace to ensure Team Members comply with safe working practices.

Hosts General Meetings that includes topics related to Health and Safety.

Promotes an open door policy as an open forum for Team Members to discuss concerns.

Investigates and reports incidents including; accidents, injuries, complaints, near misses, misconduct, infractions, and other violations of company policies and procedures.

Decides upon the appropriate action to be taken in order to correct substandard acts or conditions.

Follows up to ensure the action was completed and effective.

In conjunction with other functions (maintenance /S&C, HR, PSS) oversees and manages process flow changes, reconfiguration of DC layout, implementation of new automation and technology and other changes.

Develops and leverages internal and external partnerships and networks to maximize the achievement of business goals; engaging key stakeholders in the development, execution, and evaluation of appropriate business plans and initiatives; and supporting associate efforts in these areas.
