This role will start off as work from home, gradually you will be required to work in our Markham Office.A fantastic opportunity has arisen in the Aviva Canada Data Science Engineering team.

We require a Software Engineer, Machine Learning to help develop exceptional API and micro services delivery capability that will redefine the way we interact with customers, brokers, and vendors.AccountabilitiesDevelop scalable APIs, Micro Services and web applications with an emphasis on qualityDesign, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, reliable and secure codeMentor development resources on design and code best practices, quality, performance, and securitySupport & share best practices with teams and internal developer community as well as collaboration and stakeholder management with the broader teamWork in Agile team (Scrum, Kanban) a passion for Agile methodology but the flexibility to think outside the scrumRequirementsExcellent knowledge of industry direction and trends within API and Web Services including Web application developmentDevelopment of complex API and micro services in an enterprise environmentDevelop design documents to meet both functional and non-functional requirements for API and Micro Services in an enterprise environmentDesign and code reviews to ensure alignment with best practices, quality, performance, and securityLead problem resolution for complex API and micro services issuesTranslate application storyboards, use cases and stories into functional applications and servicesIdentify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions to these problemsParticipate in scrum meetings demos / showcases with a strong voice at the tableThink on your feet, collaborate with your team and others, and you enjoy taking ownership for your workDirect team on modern technology and introduction into core solutionsYou have a passion for solving problems across all areas of the businessEnsure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications and servicesNegotiating, influencing, effectively challenging and gaining commitment (impact and influence)QualificationsUniversity Degree in Computer Science or IT equivalentSkills KnowledgeMinimum 4 years of experience in building modern scalable API services and web applications.Experience in a data-driven software engineering environment, with an end-to-end understanding of how to leverage data to make business decisions.Python architecture, tools stack and experience with architecting and developing Python based applications in a micro services environmentUnderstanding of Data Warehouse concepts, ETL strategies and best practices.Proficiency with PostgreSQL, Teradata, Hadoop and AWS is an assetAdditional InformationAviva Canada is committed to providing accommodations for people with disabilities during all phases of the hiring process including the application process.
